For over seventy years, the Boston
Security Traders Association has provided an arena for professional
and social interaction among our members.
To achieve this, we sponsor numerous events and seminars annually. The BSTA now has over 500 members and is one of the largest member affiliates of the Security Traders Association (STA), our national organization.
The BSTA would like to reiterate the sentiment of the CFA Institute. We feel it eloquently communicates our mission and correctly maps out the challenges ahead.
It seems clear that investing more deeply in one's human capital is becoming an important trend, after decades of partial neglect at most asset management firms. The "plug and play" approach or was it more like "sink or swim"? to managing investment professionals is on the wane as firms face the ever-changing challenges of the capital markets.
It also appears evident that investment staff and management are expected to have a greater breadth of knowledge, even in many of the so-called specialist roles, in order to keep pace with rapid changes, such as the proliferation of investment products, the rise of hedge funds, and the explosive growth of alternative investments, to name but a few. Yet this demand for breadth comes at a time when demand for technical knowledge is greater than ever. And this drive to combine breadth and depth puts a huge burden on you, our members.
